Delivering enhancements to SAP HR and SAP HCM solutions on behalf of Britain’s flagship broadcaster.

Case study background

The BBC is internationally known as the UK’s public service broadcaster. Founded in 1922, the BBC serves domestic and global audiences across television, radio and online media. Funded primarily by the TV Licence fee, its television channels, radio stations and digital platforms enrich the everyday routines of millions of people across the UK and around the world.

As part of a broader IT upgrade initiative within the BBC’s Technology Group and at BBC Studios, our team delivered modernisations and improvements to the BBC’s SAP HCM, HR Self Service, and HR Case Management capabilities, as well as ensuring that integration from SAP into existing systems such as staff web portals and third-party IT Service Management tooling was retained.

Key challenges

Fast-paced, with a quick turnaround needed
Our team had just 10 weeks from start to finish to get embedded into the delivery and complete assurance of an MVP (minimum viable product), including acceptance and sign-off from HR users and senior stakeholders.

Extenuating circumstances
The delivery spanned the period of national mourning following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. This invoked an IT change freeze over key milestones, and understandably focused BBC staff on critical core-business activities.

Pivotal to this delivery’s success was a status tracking solution that our team developed and brought front and centre to project leadership teams. This automated solution integrated seamlessly with the BBC’s own delivery scope and quality management tools to provide a clear, consistent and up-to-date view on requirements coverage, testing progress and defect information, helping to drive governance, improve standards and inform decision-making.
